    very wise!

probably worth paying for a structural survey if flooding may have happened, I used to work with a man who unwittingly bought a house damaged by flood and it had a real mould problem.

    good luck.

Apparently EAs are not allowed to tell you if it's a repo (usually say a company is selling it) so in this case looks as though it is.

When I was putting a bid in on a repo, the estate agent said she couldn't say what it was but if we said the words, thats fine! So she said something along the lines of - you obviously know its a .... and then she let me finish the sentence! That was fun! the only other person who lets me finish their sentences for them is my missus...:D

The amount of excitement that a repo seems to get, it won't be long before estate agents are taping the letter boxes shut of all houses on their books!

  • I don't think EAs are told not to tell people it's a repo, we certainly do at work if anyone asks. Surely you'd have to be informed at some stage as the offer normally has to be advertised in the local paper! With the flooding; I live in a flood plain area too and it's so difficult to get insurance, really expensive and I had to go through the policy with a fine tooth comb to check we were actually covered. Good advice to get structural survey, the yellow tape could be anything really, often is a good indicator of a repo but I've seen developers who have done it to make sure nobody flushes toilets, messes with taps etc. A lot of the time the water is off anyway. Have you tried telling your EA that you are only interested if it is a repo as you generally get a v quick completion? They might come clean with you then! Good luck

I was told that if there is an a4 sheet of paper in the front window (with some writing on it, not just a blank a4 sheet of paper) that it was a repo. I have spotted one or two like that but have never gone up to the window to see what it says.

  • hi,

Doesnt it usually say on the small print of the sale particulars something like 'being sold by the mortgagees in possession' then give the bank name - for reposessions?

Sure i have seen that a few times recently on estate agent details.

    best wishes
