HBOS bank charges

I want to try and claim back my bank charges from the Halifax/BofS. I recon they owe me about £1200, which would more than wipe out my £800 O/D that I have with them. So I'm not worried about them trying to get me to close my current account with them.

However, I also have a loan with them and my mortgage is also with them, can they make me repay these in full? I know given my current credit rating and the credit crunch, there is no way on earth I will get another loan or mortgage.

So should I risk applying for the charges just now, and hope they don't start trying to mess with my other accounts, or wait until the loan is paid of (4 years time) and I'm in a better position in case I have to move my mortgage too?

If you are up to date with payments and have good account conduct, I would say the chances of them asking to repay your mortgage or loan in full are very small indeed.

Banks have been warned about retaliative measure against claimants, so this should include other accounts held at the same institution that are in good standing.
  • Thanks for the quick reply! My accounts with HBOS are not the best! My current account was over it's O/D limit several times and I went through a bad spell about Aug - Nov last year, bounced several payments, incured an insane amount of charges etc. My account has been fine since Nov, well, still O/D but I have brought down my O/D from £1000 to £800 at the moment.

I also missed one loan repayment back in October, but that was cleared within ten days and have never missed a mortgage repayment.

So I'm still really worried! Anyone else been in the same situation?

I wouldn't be worried, although the conduct on your current account isn't great, the mortgage and loan are covered by seperate agreements, so if you've not been in breach of these, it's not likely the bank will demand repayment.

Many claimants have other financial products with the same bank and I haven't can't recall any having to repay them if they have managed them well.
