When using Pinnacle Studio 8 video editor and during the rendering process my pc shuts down and takes 2-3 attempts to restart , it then resets the processor speed and the mem speed and I have to enter the bios to make the appropriate adjustments. any ideas on why would be appriciated.

Video rendering is one of the most CPU intensive applications. The fact that your bios is defaulting to 'safe' settings would suggest one of two things. Either your CPU is overheating or your RAM is faulty. There's also an outside chance that it could be a faulty or inadequate psu.
To eliminate the overheating problem remove your case cover and clean out all the dust from the inside. Pay special attention to vents and fans and particularly the cpu heatsink and fan.
Then try running Studio 8 again with the case cover still off.
Post your results.

Many thanks the problem seems to have been inadequate cooling of the case.
