I have just spotted your note about the Transcription Service.
I too am an ex typist/secretary. I have speeds of about 90wpm with good accuracy.
I also work from home as a Avon Rep, but I could do with something else todo.
I will give them a try.
Thanks0 -
I could also be interested in this, is there anyone else out there who has done work for the Transcription Agency and can give any further info. I have looked at their website but would like to hear from any one who can give an insight into the type of material received to type from and the quality of the dictation.
Many thanks.

Just wondering about people's thoughts on the Transcription Agency and also... part of their application form:
Areas of interest and/or specialism
I take it they're referring to topics you may be transcribing?!
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.0 -
60 words per minute when I stop and correct mistakes, 87 when I don't. Not bad from a self-taught typist.0

Hi,
My memory of the type of work was that the majority were in the medical field so Dr's and Specialists etc. There were some reports where there were maybe 2 or 3 people speaking at the same time so it was quite difficult to hear who was saying what. I remember listening to one report over and over with my wife and not being able to work out what they were saying. When the report was checked by the agency they send you a corrected version so they could obviously hear it well enough in their office - I think alot depends on your PC / audio setting etc.
My wife gave it up as she was finding reports being requested at too short a notice so she would get an email at 4pm on a friday saying a 2 hr audio file had to be done by Monday first thing which if not planned messed up her weekend so would advice you to be clear on your availability etc...
From memory to get started they send you a test file to type and mark you to see if you are good enough.
Hope this helps and good luckI am a Mortgage Adviser

MissBrokeandnotfixingit,
I suggest you to sign up with agency for Data input position. I think you need about 70-80wpm at least for these kind of work so you may have to practice to speed up. I've done university application form entry type of job as well as NHS patient record thingy in the past. Both temping by the way. Good luck!0 -
Voyager2002 wrote: »Hint: offer your services in transcribing interviews. Most university social science departments have people trotting round the country conducting and recording interviews as part of their research. Then they need to pay someone to to listen to the recording and type out everything that was said. It is impossible to find enough people to do transcribing, mainly because it is such a tedious and soul-destroying job, but at least it pays the bills. In my last job (as a university researcher) one of our projects was spending ten thousand a year on transcribing, and would have spent more if we could have found more people. One of my transcribers was earning about twelve pounds per hour.
I actually work for a University already but I don't particularly want to go round e-mailing all of the Departments asking for transcribing work (doesn't look very professional!) so in your experience how would one find out about these transcribing "vacancies"? I could really do with the extra cash and am not bothered about doing something soul-destroying as long as I could work from home!
Thanks!
