Typing jobs from home??

I had an idea of trying to get extra income from typing jobs from home as I am quite a speedy typist (30-40 words per min). Does anyone else have any experience of this? Whenever I google it all the stuff that comes back looks like scams (ie pay money to get some guide about typing jobs etc).

Hi there, from my experience you have to be a pretty fast typist (70-80 words per minute) to make any money out of home typing. I have done it for a few years now and my speed is about 80 wpm and still it's not that well paid!

I'm a fast typist-used to be a secretary but left a few months ago. Who do you work for? Any tips? I have both a laptop and a desktop PC if that makes a difference, not sure what spec you need. Think I am around 65wpm but will get faster getting back into it.

i only mangaed 40 wpm purley because i couldnt read the texts and made lots of mistakes

Hint: offer your services in transcribing interviews. Most university social science departments have people trotting round the country conducting and recording interviews as part of their research. Then they need to pay someone to to listen to the recording and type out everything that was said. It is impossible to find enough people to do transcribing, mainly because it is such a tedious and soul-destroying job, but at least it pays the bills. In my last job (as a university researcher) one of our projects was spending ten thousand a year on transcribing, and would have spent more if we could have found more people. One of my transcribers was earning about twelve pounds per hour.

Did you get this work through a specific site?

Did the test and I'm actually 67wpm, bit better than originally thought. Thanks for the transcribing idea - got a uni near me so will give that a go.

Hi,

My wife used to work for the Transcription Agency.

Legit company - not a scam - can't remember the pay structure but they basically send audio recordings to you to type up and you e mail them back - you earn more if you make less mistates. May be worth a call ??
