  • Have a look at National Debtline's website - there are standard letters on there to send to your creditors informing them of your new circumstances. In fact, give National Debtline a ring and go through a Statement of Affairs with them - they will advise you on your best course of action.

I'm sure you know this but your unsecured creditors should come bottom of your priorities for payment, after your mortgage, taxes, utilities etc.

See what benefits you may be entitled to.

    Good luck.

  • does it make a difference to phoning ND if am living in scotland etc

I only have two secure debts which are both car loans and other is a personal loan.
  • Are the car loans secured against your car? What is the personal loan secured against? Your house? It would be a good idea for you to post an SOA on here. There's a sticky at the top of this board with a link to a good SOA calculator. Once we see that we can offer more specific advice.

  • I dont see the point in posting a SOA tbh cause i have no means of income at the moment as am trying my best to get back offshore as already registered with 7 agencies but there is alot of ppl going for same job etc

The personal loan is againest nothing so its a unsecured loan.

Thing is the personal loan and one of the car loans are with welcome finance :(
Also the other car loan is with Britsh credit trust

I will give them a call 2mo thanks

This will be taken the wrong way however I say it but ... as you have now lost your job I am afraid that keeping and maintaining regular payments is going to be out of the question. So, you can contact NDLine or, my own preference, the Consumer Counselling Credit Services. I have found CCCS better than ND line because they asked for my NI number which they don't need to assess you for debt help last year! CCCS work somewhat differently. They will do EVERYTHING for you, including producing letters for each of your creditors, arrange an appointment with a counsellor on the phone who will go through your income/outgoings, then a financial statement will be generated - using budget guidelines at the legally legislated rate for priority debts, food, clothing BEFORE your creditors are dealt with; that's the order they are dealt with - priority debts, food, other things, creditors always come last on the list.

So, this will also take a lot of stress off you because it would all be done for you. In ideal circumstances, CCCS can also liase on your behalf with your creditors so you don't have to. That's only if you have more than £100 - from their mouths not mine BTW - disposable income to distribute to your creditors.

Lastly, you have lost your job. But you must now deal with this situation before it gets worse. Because, trust me, pretty soon it will begin to when whatever money you have dries up. Because without any income logically it will do so in a matter of months or maybe weeks. I may sound harsh but I speak from well learned experience. As I have been dealing with this situaton myself for a while.

:Lastly, and this only common sense given the number of people out of work daily in the UK right now ie thousands chasing one job potentially, sensibly you could be out of work for a while. So, you will need to come to terms with that and plan for it. This is the reality of things here, and I am not in anyway trying to frighten you. But don't put all your eggs in one basket. Because given things right now in the UK you may be out of work indefinitely. Not being harsh, just putting things how they plainly are.

But I'd try CCCS and that is not going against anyone else here. CCCS are also very supportive if you need them on their freephone number. Because many overlook that the other side of debt. Because it's not just financial that costs you.

Anyway, up to you. If I sound a little tetchy, it's because I am still awake at nearly 5 am in the morning. Who wouldn't be.

I wish you luck and hope you get somewhere.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
