Insurance companies who only look back 3 years & lost NCB car parked unattended...

Ive got a couple of questions. Firstly my car was parked unattended outside my house last August when there were a collision between two other cars, one of these cars then hit my parked unattended car & wrote it off. I was paid out but lost £400 excess which i am trying to get back & i lost 5 of 9 years NCB. I have been told that the two other parties are still arguing to who was at fault & until this is settled i have a fault against my insurance???????????

Secondly my other half had an accident back in Sept 2005 which she said wasnt her fault. We informed my previous insurer to what had happened & we heard nothing more. Then when i informed my current insurer of the recent accident they said that this accident had come up on the national data base & that the insurer had paid out £4000 for the other parties car & personal injury. I was baffled, i had not been informed of this, did not lose any NCB & no excess!!?? I am 100% sure i didnt have protected NCB.

So both of the above as resulted in my renewall going up from £600 to £1400!!!

I am not happy & trying to look for insurers who only look back 3 years to see if i can get it down but this still leaves me with this fault against me & only 4 years NCB instead of 9.

Any ideas to what i could do??

  • You need to check your ncb before getting quotes. Max discount by most insurers is 5 years regardless of how many actual years you have. So if you had max ncb and have two claims then you may only actually have 1 years ncb if you didnt have protected ncb.

Lots of companies ask for details of claims within the last three years so the first claim may not count against you on most quotes. However the loss of ncb and the outstanding fault claim will increase your premium and insurance costs have risen in general as well.
