He has to stay in until his belly rash has gone vets orders. He was being greedy before but he has been a lot worse these past few days so it may be boredom.

Does he have a Kong? You could freeze some of his meat into a Kong, it'd take him longer to get at it, make him burn some calories & keep his mind busy! Pedigree isn't the best, but it's whatever he enjoys & you can afford, if he's happy & healthy on it don't worry!

I'd try making him work for his dinner such as using a Kong, you can buy them in most Pet Shops x
  • some good advise above!!
i agree that a pet should be fed at least twice a day (if being particualrly greedy, my patients that are on a diet are adivse to feed 3-4 times daily, less times between meals, and they are smaller so the body digests the food more efficently. but this only works if meals are weighed once daily, then split, to prevent any xtra food intake)
u will find that if a pet is now castrated/spayed their metabolism slowly changes, which enables them to gain weight more easily and find it harder to lose it, so food and excersise needs to be adjust accordingly
    good luck
  • If he's on steroids for his skin problem, that may well be making him feel hungrier.

I always feed 'by eye' rather than what it says on the tin, if my dog look over weight I feed less, if they look skinny, I feed more - regardless of the 'sad eyes' - and believe me, a Springer Spaniel specialises in 'sad eyes' ;)

Castrated dogs often put on weight after the op, because their owners don't cut down on their food - it's not castration which makes them put on weight, it's the owners who keep putting food in front of them.
