Some great advice in this thread! I was wondering for a hatchback car how much brake fluid should be needed for a full flush and renew? may get a whopping 5 litre tub cheap and split cost with a mate who also needs to renew the fluid in a similar size car.
I got about 1litre which was opened a few years ago and a little used to top-up, but the liquid is a light/medium yellow colour, i get the feeling it should be clear if no water has become absorbed?0 -
Brake fluid looks a little like vegetable oil in it's normal state. If it's been open a few years and is only 1 litre I'd be tempted to get rid of it though.0

Chuck it away and buy some new fluid.
A litre is enough to do most cars. The pipes are very narrow.0 -
Thanks both - I'll get some new fluid instead. You know what I found out though? Apparently my car although old (1995) has rear [drum] brakes too (front has discs). I always thought only the handbrake controlled the rear wheel brakes.0
