Has anyone used Danish oil on interior doors?

OH wants to wax the new doors in the house we're renovating. He's used Briwax before, apply with a cloth, buff up with soft brush, maybe finish off with a polishing cloth.

The builder says Danish oil is very good and easy - wipe on with a cloth and that's it.

Any thoughts on the Danish oil? OH likes to stick to what he knows and needs proof that something else could be better :rotfl: .

    Yes. We have.

It looks great and it isn't hard work at all. We use paintbrushes though. Not much else to say :o

I've used Danish Oil and although lots of people recommended it to me, I wasn't impressed tbh. I found Osmo Polyx Oil to be better.

Says for floors on the tin but does all wood really (I phoned manufacturer to check). My windows sills are done with this too.

Think this is one of those 'personal preference' things. :)

    Thanks peeps!

Have any of you used these on doors with a veneer?

Our new Wickes doors have a light oak veneer but it says "not suitable for polishing, waxing or treatment with teak oil". OH rang Wickes to ask why (after asking on here and people saying it should be OK but may invalidate guarantee) and they couldn't really give a reason other than say they only recommend paint, varnish or stain (Wickes own of course  ). They did say that the guarantee would be void if we used something not recommended.

we have stopped using varnish now, and use only the danish oil on all sorts of timber.
  • lovely doors, we've only used on solid oak so I couldn't say if it'd be ok or not. I noticed that the first comment from a customer re those doors was that they looked good after 'oiling' though x

We couldn't stretch the budget for solid oak as we needed 11  .

We saw the comment that somehad had oiled them so it would probably be OK. It's a chipboard core, solid wood edges and veneer panels. Only thing someone came up with was whether the glue would be affected or the veneer might not take the sanding between coats . Just wondered if anyone had oiled or waxed a veneer door a while ago and how it's faring after time.

    Hi TomsMom,

Just wondered what you finally used on your Wickes Oak Veneer doors and whether you are pleased with the results ?

I have some similar new oak veneered doors from Wickes and am very interested to hear what you finally chose.

    Thanks
    Mark
