electricity usage spike and cost monitor

I have a CurrentCost monitor from Eon and I have it connected to my computer giving me a live reading of my electricity usage (sad I know) since 6pm tonight. 2 computers, a fish tank heater and lights and a fridge freezer.

Consumption has been approx, on average, 600 watts and I can tell when the fish tank heater switches on and off for instance, 150 watts for 2 minutes every 6 minutes. Even knew when my wife put the kettle on for a cup of tea

I am getting an update every 6 seconds and there was a sudden surge of 800 watts, from 600 watts to 1.4 Kw then 650 watts. I am assuming this is the fridge so is it normal for a fridge motor to have a 800 watt consumption of electricity for a fraction of a second when it switches on?

I think I will leave my computer on all night (with the monitor switched of) and see how my consumption varies during the night.:D
