hsbc credit cards

hello,

i have never had a credit card before, so i presume i have no credit history. i believe the best place to try first is your bank. fine. so i'm with hsbc and after looking at their site and internet banking it seems the credit cards they offer are mastercard. that's no use to me really, as i want a visa card.

can anyone confirm if this is the case? or do hsbc also issue visa cards?

:)

Why do you want Visa and not Mastercard? Do you know any essential difference that I am not aware about?

well 99% of the time my maestro debit card is fine. i use it with lots of bookies, however the foreign ones don't accept it and only accept credit cards. problem with mastercard is you often cannot withdraw winnings to the card and have to wait for cheques. too much hassle for me, so visa would be much better.
  • You do know that any deposits made into online bookmakers, casinos and the like are treated as cash advances by credit card companies don't you? This means that you will get charged a high rate of interest, usually from the day you take the money out, ie. not interest free period if you pay off in full, even in any 0% introductory period, plus there would be a handl, ing fee aswell. If you are okay with all of this then go ahead.

nah. it completely depends on the credit card issuer. most of them do not treat gambling transactions as cash advances. a small minority do though..
