Any issues with marrying in a church when not practicing Christians?

Surely that's a given if you are marrying in a church? The vows you make include god in them. You hear stories of people who don't believe getting married in a church because it's the done thing or it looks pretty (I'm not saying this is true of anyone here because it sounds like many of you are Christian you just don't go to church much/at all, fair enough, people worship/practice in a variety of different ways according to what suits them and their beliefs), but as an atheist I don't understand how they can go through with it and make some very solemn promises that include a god they don't believe in. If I said those things I wouldn't mean them.
Sorry OP, that's not really anything helpful to answer your question. I'm sure you will find a minister sympathetic to you as you are Christians and want a Christian marriage ceremony. I've known a couple of people who aren't practising Christians get married in a CofE church so it's certainly possible. Good luck with organising your ceremony!Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

When went to our local church, which is a C of E church, and not one question was asked as to whether or not we were christian or in any way religious. Like you, I was also wary of what may be asked, but the guy was great, and just asked us the basic legal questions
good luck! 0
