What to do for a week in Manchester?

Hi All,
I live and work in Manchester and I need to take a week off in March or I'll lose my annual leave days, I'm really looking forward to taking the time off but hubby and all my firends will be working so I'll need to entertain myself for a week and I don't want to waste it slobbing about in front of the telly.
I don't drive and I need to entertain myself, I thought one day I could spend at a local college being pampered by their trainee beauty therapists other than that I'm stumped, I'd quite like to do a cookery course or breadmaking or somehting but I don't want to spend too much and I'm open to other ideas, does anyone have any thoughts?
Thansk in advance!

Depending on where you are, you can get access round on the buses for £4 on First Bus daysaver (mainly the north side of town), so then you can get further afield. If you can get into Manchester, you can get out again on the tram- come up north to where I am in Bury- the outdoor market is on Wed, Fri & Sat- and it's great!
In Manchester- well, check out the Tourist Info centre for starters. You can go on tours of the Town Hall, or round town. (I'm assuming you don't want to slog round the Arndale- though you can do that too?). Have you been to the Northern Quarter recently? There's the Craft Centre up there- lots of lovely things, but you might spend a ££ or two. Interested in culture- Manchester Art Gallery, Whitworth Art Gallery, John Rylands Library, Chets School of Music Library, Pump House, Manchester Museum of Science & Industry
Food- would recommend Albert's Shed in Castlefield (sit down), Dukes 92 next door (less formal). Bar Burrito & Kro in Piccadilly Gardens, Katsouri's Deli at Deansgate & Bridge Street.
Funny isn't it- I have lived here for ever- and still not got to the Art Gallery
. But I'm also off next week, using up my hols, and will be going just that to make up for being such a cultural void!
Enjoy your week off;)Won Mulberry Bag Jan 09
