We have fourteen halogen lamps switched on a lot as my flat is very dark. The plan is to buy energy-saving bulbs for the living area which will reduce costs by 40%, and a motion sensor for the hall which will reduce use by at least 80%.

Other than that we use the immersion heater for forty five minutes each night, washing machine at 40C two or three times a week, electric oven or hob in use daily, no tumble dryer or dishwasher, fairly old under-counter freezer and fairly new built-in fridge, TV and laptop which get a lot of hammer but are never left on standby, mobile phone chargers but no 'boys toys'!

I use a slow cooker regularly and have just purchased an induction hob. Mr. Fire Fox is a chef and hates my old electric hob even with a passion, so tends to favour the oven - hope this will change once the new hob is fitted. Intend to replace the fridge and freezer with a combined appliance when I find one at an MSE price ...

Would really like to get our use down to 8KWH a day in summer, 10KWH a day in winter. The heating has not been on the last two days, and I hope that's it for this year! Feel free to make comments and suggest improvements!
