I posted a similar thread to this last night but it has gone again in the latest purge....
Anyway it is albvious that people have much less money in their pockets now beciase of the recession. However lots of jobs that people cant do themselves still need to be done - eg sawing trees, building jobs, doing driveways etc.
Do you think people will turn to odd job men, gypsies etc to get these jobs done as they will obviously be less expeisnve than professional tradesmen?
I fear there will be more cases of ne'er-do-wells coming around the door asking for work....

In any recession its the small builders, handy men etc who feel the pinch more, its always said that poor old white van man is in big trouble in the hard times. On the other side I sometimes hear that as people arent moving homes in a recession they are more likely to get odd jobs done, so completely conflicting viewpoints.
Personally now that times are tougher ill be doing more things myself, whereas before I simply couldnt be bothered to clear the gutters or paint the fences because for £100 I could get it done well for me, now I certainly will be doing these things!
I would never get sub standard people in to do a job regardless of whether money was tight, save until you can get it done properly or else it almost certainly will cost more in the long term.0 -
I never employ anyone other than Gypsies, Travellers or anyone else who can't speak English and has never heard of minimum wage !!!!'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

I use Gypsy workers. Since they are all camped out illegally on my farm, they don't have far to come!!

What infuriates me is that they still manage to turn up late for work! :mad:0 -
I will only buy Lucky Heather from British workers. Although as yet it has brought me no luck at all, and looks suspiciously like my neighbour's daisies.0

I always thought gypsies were more expensive

That's the thing some folk haven't woke up to yet. The price starts off cheaper but in the end it costs more. You pay cheap you pay twice as they say. Alternatively you get conned. The choice is yours . Not had any !!!!!! chip in to the thread/ site yet. No?? why/ because as we all know they can't read.itsallagame wrote: »I always thought gypsies were more expensive
