Rat mousing around in house !!

Hey all

I spotted a rat nose around in my lounge the other day. Before I could recover from the shock and shoot it or something it ran back in to the dining room. Here is the problem. I have checked the entire dining room and kitchen but there is no sign of the blaster. Any ideas how I can locate this rat? Also laid some rat baits which do not seem to have affected it.
Cheers guys

  • Do any of your neighbours/friends have a cat or dog that you can bring in? With their sniffers, they would go right to the spot where it was!

a trap with peanut butter on it will do the trick ... but put the peanut butter on before you set it ...
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

  • Yip, peanut butter is the stuff to use, works every time for me with mice. They can smell it from miles away and cant get it off the trap without springing it.

    Hi orthopod,

I'm not sure how much it will help you, but have a look at this recent thread.

rats do you kill them or humanely release them?

    Good Luck!

  • I recommend a Gray-Nicolls cricket bat - it's what we used in our student house - chase the rat out in the open - bang, bin, Good night Vienna. Gunn & Moore will probably work just as well ;)

We have just got rid of this problem, we couldn't work out where the rats were getting in (we could hear them in the ceiling ) Where have you put the poison? We had to put it under our floorboards upstairs (as we have 4 dogs) and that seemed to get rid of most of them, the ones it didn't we used a trap (i would've prefered a nicer way but i had no choice.) Apart from that, there must be somewhere its getting in, even the smallest hole, locate it and fill it in with something.

    Hope this helps somewhat.

you can buy these anti rodent devices that you simply plug into a socket. I think it transmits pulses/waves that are intolerable to rodents. doesnt affect cats or dogs though.

ps Hunnymonster what bat weigh are you using?

  • I think they sell those sound devices in costco - something along the lines of 3 for 11 quid. They can be located near the non food battery section
Tell it as it should be....
  • I don't know how they did it but the rats we had managed to lick off the peanut butter without sprining the trap. A slice of mars bar firmly wedged did the job though - probably because it was stickier.
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!
