Open Fire Smokeless Logs

I've had the all clear on our flue,We are using the fireplace to burn smokeless logs that we buy from the local supermarket,We are also using a fireguard,Apart from the obvious dangers have we missed anything as my OH is worried although i am not,Just wondered about the dangers?

  • Just watch what you are burning as dry wood/logs etc. can spit hard and throw bits over the fire guard and straight on the carpet !!!! you can't beat a real fire in the lounge !
  • We have a simple rug in front of the hearth so that there is minimal danger of any soot, dust, sparks etc marking the carpet. The rug can go into the washing machine too.

    You wont get much heat from a open fire. We have one is the heat is next to nowt, so we went for a log burner in a different chimney and the heat is so much more than a open fire.

    Open fires can be messy at best of time. Also buying logs from a supermarket is a lot more expensive that through a local supplier, look in local free rag or google for a local supplier in your area.

    You do tend to buy them in larger quantities though so you may need a space to store them from the rain. You need to ask for seasoned logs
