Hi I'm travelling from Liverpool to London tomorrow.
I have a £7 single from Liverpool - Stafford (arriving at stafford at 16:35)
and an £18 return from Stafford - Euston
but that stafford train leaves the station at 16:21 so obviously it's two different trains.
Am I ok to do this as I have tickets to cover all legs of the journey? or do all the train times have to match up? I am about to book tickets now could you let me know asap thanks!

If the train from Stafford to Euston leaves before you arrive in Stafford, then obviously you can't do it. If your journey involves different trains, be sure to leave plenty of spare time where you change, in case the train from Liverpool to Stafford arrives late.0

this isn't a split ticket. You've got 2 different trains and a connection that can't be made..
a split ticket, is when you get to one destination with one ticket and stay on the same train to an ultimate destination with a different ticket0 -
I'm a bit confused as to what you've found. You can't get a 'split ticket' unless the two trains are actually the same one, which in your case it obviously isn't. You need to make sure that the STA-EUS train departs after you arrive on the LIV-STA train. If you get a flexible ticket you'll be ok, but if it's an 'advance' one you won't.
If you haven't sorted it yet and if fare is more important to you than speed, ask for a 'London Midland only' ticket from Liverpool to London return - a walk-on open ticket will cost £22 return 'super off peak' and £35 off-peak (depending on what time you want to come back).0
