How many viewings before you found your venue?

Three, we chose the third one, but the only reason we visited that last was because that was the easiest way to put the round trip together.
The first, a country hotel, seemed disinterested, and the venue was completely soulless.
The second couldn't do the ceremony in the same place, which was out.
The third, a nice country (if chain) pub. Perfect.0 -
My daughter chose the 1st one SHE saw.
Her fiancee worked for a company who do Chair covers so had visited most of the venues within travelling distance, she was a bit worried about 'going local' as she is a secondary teacher and a lot of pupils from yr11 up work in the local venues and she didn't feel comfortable having them around at her wedding.
Fiance tapped his nose and said, "I know just the place", took her on an 'unofficial visit' when he went back to pick up covers and she fell in love with the place. It's close enough to drive to but far enough away to be 'private'.

Ours was the second venue,we had a third to look at but they gave our date away when it was a prov booking.Made the right choice!0

I've looked at 10 so far, and still not found the place. My future sister-in-law looked at about 25 before she found hers. That makes us sound really picky, but the area we were looking in has some terrible places, and some frighteningly expensive ones!
So jealous of those of you finding the right place on the first go!!!!Nobody I'd rather be0 -
We were originally looking for a stylish shabby chic pub/bar with a private function room and I looked at millions of places on the web over the course of a couple of weeks. We then narrowed it down and went on a mini pub crawl (good fun!) and saw 6 in one afternoon/evening but none were quite right.
My dad then suggested Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park which I had looked at but discounted as too expensive. He said that they would be happy to pay for it if it was what we wanted so we visited and fell in love!!
In a way I do wish we could have found the pub I had in my head but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Pembroke Lodge is gorgeous though and I can't wait to go back again in a couple of weeks for our main meeting with the banqueting manager (god that title sounds soo pretentious!).
Make sure though before you pay that deposit that you check on the web for reviews and if it is a hotel, I read (I think it was on this board) that its a good idea to stay over one night if you can so you can double check that not all of what they say is flannel to draw you into spending loads of cash.

Hi I am looking at venues in March, just wondering if anyone has a checklist of things to ask / not to forget to ask when looking around? (We are looking at 6 in one weekend - eek!)
Hi I'm getting married in 4.5 weeks!!
Check out hitched.co.uk it has an extensive list of questions to ask your venue. We took it with us and found half of them irrelevant but it helped to have a list to refer to as a lot to take in.
We looked at 4 venues. Booked one last June but they put their prices up by a ridiculous amount a week or so ago so went back to one we loved but couldn't afford and they did us a fantastic deal for a late booking. Less then half price. So much happier with the new venue saw it last night and it was gorgeous can really imagine myself there.
Getting so excited now I'm going to be married in just over a month!! :rotfl:

We were a little stuck as we needed quite a large venue for our day do. There were only around 4 that were not too far away.
Anyway I requested info from all 4 but got a 'feeling' about one in particular.
Now I sometimes have a tendency to get over excited and be impulsive, so I didn't say anything anout loving 'the' venue when me and OH went to see it!
It was the first one that we visited and OH loved it so we booked it there and then (over 2 years ago now) - they were already taking bookings for 2011 and it was end of 2006 when we went!!! The date I originally wanted was booked up but we managed to get another date in August 2009 so were happy!
I think you do get a feeling that a venue is right for you! The wedding co-ordinator at our venue was also really genuine and I didn't feel like he was trying to give us the hard sell! Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j

I'm not getting married but have been to loads of weddings!!!
IMO, try and get a venue with a bar IN the room where you will be having the reception, the last 6 weddings I have been to (in 3 yrs!!! ), only 1 had this, all the rest, the bars where in another room, or outside the reception room, and everybody spent most of the night at the bar, not just getting served, but socialising, especially the men, they love to stand at the bar with the other blokes all night, (it helps them avoid us women wanting them to dance with us) the beautifully decorated reception room, with DJ and dance floor is usually deserted.
Also I was at a wedding this weekend, the public areas where the wedding was held where lovely, the bedroomsrooms where awful, ask to see a 'normal' bedroom aswell as the honeymoon suite, as our normal room was awful, but the suites gorgeous.Trainee Wakeboarder, Fashion and celebrity devotee!0 -
Well, I'm into double figures. We really liked one we saw yesterday, but it's twice the price of our current 2nd choice and we're attending a friends wedding there soon. Hm. It's leaps and bounds above our 2nd choice, so the doubled price isn't too out of the question. We have 6-7 more venues to see now and then we'll have viewed virtually everything in our area. What to do.... :rotfl:
Oh, and my full list has over 50 venues on it :rotfl: :rotfl:Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0
