Joint Acc with First Direct

Help, hope someone can help with this, seem to be going round in circles (what's new)

I mentioned in a previous thread that we had a joint acc with First Direct. I have now filled in most of forms to go br but OH is not. The acc is used by my OH and I do not put any money into this acc. We tried last month to get my name taken off acc but were told could not do this. Tried again when the acc was not overdrawn but they are still refusing to remove my name.

Do not want acc to be frozen when I go br as it really is not my acc. I can't put in my forms until we get the bank acc sorted out!!!!! Any suggestions would be a great help.
 Had lbm, switched it off too many times. Now am trying to sort my life out :T:T

  • Have you tried talking to a manager?

  • I had joint acc with FD....they told me that I could not remove one name ...the only way is to completely close the joint & reopen new account in remaining customers name.

Think that they have`nt got the technology to do complicated things like change the name on an account!!!

They did however switch the overdraft onto my new sole new account!! odd really as the criteria was based on exOH income`s in the first place!!!

Odd set of rules at FD !
  • HSBC (who own FD) did me a big favour when wife wanted off our joint account

she signed the forms in-branch, and HSBC closed the joint and opened a new sole account and transferred all monies and DDM's at a stroke

which was good fo rme...:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:
  • Thanks for that guys. Have not tried talkiing to a manager. My OH did try to open a sole acc but was refused, it's so nice to be popular with banks:rolleyes:

I know when I go br the acc will be frozen and I don't suppose there is anyway it can be used after that???

  • It will be frozen I`m afraid !!!

That said I have a joint account still with NR ( was offset savings for the mortgage)....it is still open although exactly half the balance has been taken due to his BR...trouble is its still frozen & I can`t get the balance out.....all £31 of it !!!
  • Thanks SSA I will try talking to a manager, don't hold out much hope but until we get this sorted I can't put in br forms. Now I have decided I am doing it want it over.

  • I was told the same, today I have sent the letter to close the account, have 27p left in, so as in credit, hopefully they will close ok
  • Thanks davetheman, looks like will have to try and get my OH an acc somewhere else. He is not going br but does have debt and nobody seems interested in him opening an acc.

Why don't you both get your selves a Co-op Cashminder or Barclays Cash account. You can get joint or single accounts or both if you want.

  • tigerfeet2006 you took the words out of my mouth. Just before OH left for work said that he should try for a Co-op Cashminder acc. He has CC debts with them but would he still be able to open an acc?
