Difficulty paying credit cards

in Credit cards
I have several credit cards which are now maxed up. I am self-employed and the nature of my job means that I can't count on a regular income and as the recession bites things are getting worse. I always make sure I have enough to pay my mortgage and have up until the last few months somehow managed to pay the cards. I had a phone call this week (from Halifax) to say I was in arrears from not making October's payment and with interest, charges and this months payment they want £500. If I pay this I can't pay my mortgage. Does anyone have any experience in what they might accept as a payment this month. I could probably get straight with them again next month. What would they do if I can't pay at all? Thanks

Hi
I have had the same problems as yourself and I have basically rang up the credit company and asked if you can pay some of it this month as a gestured payment (even if it is a low amount) and pay the rest the next month. Or alternatively ring them and say that you can pay them next month in full and they might stop the overfee charges. If you avoid it I think it continue to get worse and also they will charge you loads on top for late fees
Hope this helps.Married the love of my life on 1st October 20110 -
A key thing is to keep talkiong to the company until you come to some arrangement. That's the way to keep things as sweet as possible and avoid getting into nasty situations.
Have you thought about posting on the DFW board for some advice? I fyou post your SOA they can help you trim your outgoings so that you can afford more payments, I appreciate this may be a tough time but it can really help to have another eye look at your finances.0 -
Thanks for the advice. I'll give them a call and appeal to their better nature.0
