I would expect them to be better than the value tins but I thought Princes was a top brand name.
Hi
Napolina and Cirio are the decent makes out there. As these are all coming down in price (apart from the shop brands I think,it maybe worth trying an odd tin of a different brand.
However once you try these gems you won't be going back to the cheaper ones.
Why ruin that decent quality pasta dish with terrible tomatoes?
Taken from the Napolina website
TOMATOES
Italy's golden ingredient
Canned tomatoes- Plum and chopped tomatoes
- Chopped tomatoes with herbs or garlic
- Organic chopped and plum tomatoes
- Cherry tomatoes
- Sieved passata
- Crushed tomatoes with onion & garlic; with basil; with chilli and pepper
- Tomato puree
Napolina's tomato range stretches from canned tomatoes to passata and puree. All are designed to be convenient to use, yet give your Italian dishes real authenticity.
Napolina's tomatoes are grown on the sun-drenched slopes of Puglia in Italy, and are picked only when they are fully ripe, for a rich, intense flavour that will bring a real taste of Italy to all your cooking.
It is the quality of our tomatoes that has resulted in us becoming the UK’s number one canned tomato brand.*
Plum and chopped canned tomato varieties are the perfect Italian store-cupboard staple. For added convenience, there’s also Napolina chopped tomatoes with added herbs or garlic. You’ll also find an organic variety of Napolina’s chopped and plum tomatoes.
The smooth, sieved texture of Napolina passata makes it ideal as a versatile base for soups, casseroles and pasta sauces. For a more chunky, rustic texture to your dishes, try crushed tomatoes which Napolina also offers with added garlic, pepper or basil.0 -
My Mum bought a tin of Napolina plum tomatoes and there was just one tomato in the tin. She refuses to buy them now and also admits to not looking at the price and being horrified that they were 98p a tin. She now buys Lidl toms which are far better than Tesco value. I am stocking up on those but would be interested in the case for £2.49 if I knew the brand.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I dont like tinned tomatoes at all, much prefer to buy tomato sauce in glass jar. Asda are selling 2 Ragu Traditional jars for £1 and each jar contains 230g tomatoes per 100g. Great with pasta which is also on offer - 2 packs for £1.
GO ASDA0 -

Just come home from a quick twilight raid on my local 24 hour Tesco and pleased to report Napolina tinned toms (Whole and chopped) are still on offer at 48p per tin or if you prefer you can still pick up a pack of 4 tins for the bargain price of £3.89.
Good ol' Tesco. Every little helps (their profits that is!)0 -
I'm sure Morrison Chopped tomatoes were 27p each last time I was there? Or am I wrong?0
