  • I agree, ooh the thought of a holiday somewhere hot. I too have to put at least £30 a week on my gas meter, and my house is still cold. Hence why I am awake uncomfortable and freeeeezzzing. Even colder tonight as the boiler has broken, we have hot water and no heating. I woke up freeeeezzzing and now cant sleep. Am praying the landlord will sort it tomorrow.

Now I guess if we didnt put the heating on and washed in cold water we would save some. Hmm then we would have 1 week of being hot and 51 weeks of being cold.

Paying for gas on a meter is the most expensive way of doing it, so you have my sympathies. Have a look on the Debt-free Wannabee and Old Style Moneysaving boards for ideas on saving money, and there's an Up Your Income board too.

Lots of people seem to get really cheap holidays by collecting the Sun tokens. I'm sure there are other ways too. Maybe others will post their ideas.

Don't give up - you sound as though you deserve a nice break!

If for 3 weeks you dont have your heating on all day and night, say just in the evening and morning you;ll save a few quid.

Holidays are as much about a break from normal routine as anything else. Do you have a friend or relative who would houseswap for a week or so? Approach your break with a 'holiday' attitude and you will indeed have a good time. There really is no need to spend lots and travel to a different country. Picnics in the park, walks, museums, art galleries, investigating architecture, building sand castles - these can all be done anywhere !!(well, perhaps building a sandcastle in a city centre might be difficult but you get the idea!!!
You really can have fun and a lovely break this way - I know we've done it. It's surprising what you didn't realise was in an area when you approach it as a tourist.

Easy :) I am the sort of person who does not buy what I don't need, and am strict with myself as I budget. You don't have to break the bank for a holiday, just careful budgetting.
