I have never found loss adjusters unhelpful, is there some history with you and loss adjusters?

A large percentage in my experience do not perform a great job. This has only changed in the last few years, prior to almagamtion and cost cuttings the opposite would be true.

  • Confirming a previous post: Buy a new carpet yourself. If you just leave it, the landlord will trouser your bond, and probably also ask for a bit more.

No good to you, but I am a renter and took out the Endsleigh Tenants' Contents Insurance Policy. Under this policy I am covered for:
    - my contents in the rented flat
    - my landlord's contents in case I damage them
    - emergency door/window/similar cover in case something needs immediate attention and the LL is not responsive (e.g. in case of a break in, to get the locks changed or any windows reglazed).

If I had cats and they had chewed up the carpet, I'd not consider claiming on the insurance, I'd assume that it wasn't accidental damage but would be deemed as deliberate damage because they're pets I chose and I allowed them to chew things up (rather than locking them in a box so they couldn't :P )

So, even insured, I'd expect it was my responsibility to pay for any carpet deteriorations.
