Should I change suppliers if...

I recently had a salesperson come to our door from Scottish Power trying to get me to change to them from my current gas and electricity supplier, E-On. Martin Lewis' advice here is not to at the moment until all the suppliers have lowered their prices. She wanted to see a copy of my existing E-On bill and she seemed quite shocked that the rate for my electricity was exactly the same as my rate for gas. She believes this may be a mistake on E-On's part. It looks like we're being undercharged at present. We'd recently moved from another property where we were with E-On as well, and looking at the rates on bills we still had for that property, there was quite a difference between the two rates which made me agree with her.

I basically said to her that I wouldn't be doing anything at this moment in time until I resolved this issue, although the real reason was that it's probably not a good time to change suppliers anyway until they've all lowered their prices.

I am however concerned as to whether I should be chasing E-On up on this. If I do, and it does turn out to be an error at their end, I would be possibly shooting myself in the foot, as I'd probably get charged more. What I am also unclear of is whether I'd incur any backdated charges as well for what the rate should have been. Potentially a nasty little shock!

Does anyone know whether they can backdate charges if they find an error in the unit rates? If so, do you think I should change suppliers anyway?
