Old Bills

I moved house and switched the gas supply to my regular provider. The old provider EDF did not send a bill and all was forgotten about until a couple of weeks ago when they sent a letter asking for meter readings. We contacted them to say that they were not our supplier, they said that they made a mistake and that they would sort things. On Saturday we had a bill for over £800 for gas charges and stating that they are our current supplier, I queried this as we are with Eon. They rang back today to say that they had not charged us for an initial six weeks from December 2007 until the switch completed at the end of January 2008 and that they would send a smaller revised bill. After spending nearly twenty minutes on hold on Saturday I asked them to reconsider! Does anyone know if they can send me a bill for gas that was supplied over a year ago? Thanks

So you moved in, EDF was your supplier but didn't bill you? Did you contact them when you moved in to give opening meter readings?0

It was a brand new house, the developer took meter readings and passed them on.0

Just for future never just assume the developer will do that always take meter reading youself when you move in or out of a property.goodlookingadam wrote: »It was a brand new house, the developer took meter readings and passed them on.0 -
I am sure that Eon would have passed info over when the switch occured. Does anyone know if back billing applies?0

I'm not sure - I think you're on dodgy ground if you can't prove you contacted the supplier. If you set up an account and there are no bills, I think you can only be charged for a year. In your case, I think they can bill you for those few weeks - watch this space - others will come on and confirm or correct this.0

Eon should pass on the reading from the date that you switched, but you should have initially contacted EDF to provide your reading as of moving in date and your name/ payment method so they knew the property was no longer unoccupied and who to bill. You used the energy so you must ensure that you pay for it.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
