Worrying isn't it, they are predicting 3 years before car sales pick up again. GM and Chrysler between them needed about $17bn in November 2008, 4 months later they need another $21.6bn. Can this really be kept up for 3 years?
They've got plans to cut the model range and close factories but that cannot be done overnight, it will take them until 2011 to complete these measures. During that time how much more bail out money will they need?

Shame, Vauxhall and Ford have got a viable range of products in Europe IMO, new Insignia looks every inch a premium car for family car money.

I am convinced that at least one of them will be sacrificed and allowed to go under.

TBH, I have never been a great fan of any of their vehicles, most Japanese / Korean vehicles are far better value, and even the Japanese are suffering now.

They won't 'go under'. Parts may be sold and some brands may well be lost. But the entire company going under? Can't see it...
  • Especially Ford who are doing well in Europe, but can't get their act together in the USA.

I would have said similar about Woolworths 12 months ago.;)

Seriously, not even the Yanks can afford to keep propping up this mess for ever.

    Time will tell.

I wanted an estate car about year or so ago. I'd onlt had VX for years. I narrowed the choice based on engine, space price etc, down to 3 Astra, Focus and Megane. I went for the Megane because it was correct for me, but the Focus was far better than the Astra and I'm a VX fan, just to similar inside to the old Vectra and even cavaliers.

Oh, and just for the antis the Renault hasn't broke yet:rolleyes:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Like old Vectra or Cavalier? You must have looked at a really old Astra! Mine is brushed aluminium with lovely dashboard and sports seats.

Funnily enough had looked at the Kia C'eed after seeing the ad on tv......realised the reason I liked it so much is because it looks like an Astra!:o
Bit nervous of the parts' costs on these right now though....and would a 7yr warranty really be effective?

I don't know if I can stretch to brand new although alot of people have said what great deals are available right now......I'm thinking it will be a 2008 model with a few miles on the clock. I'd always been advised to go down this route so the car has got over any initial "teething problems" :rotfl:

The comments regarding the rapid depreciation, on the Kia/Hyundai,this isn't as bad as it might be - depending on how long you intend to keep the car - the warranty will encourage many owners to go for long term, so you will, more than likely, be into the main dealer service costs. On the whole, this in't going to dramatically increas the running £$£$ to a scary extent. All makes have some dearer components than others.

As fot not being able to afford NEW, as opposed to pre-registered, or a few months old. I'm not a big fan of the 'savings' you MIGHT make, as you'll miss out on low/free finace on a new. You will be a year prefix registration & possibly a year older, which will mean the re-sale is lower, when you trade in again. Aslo the warranty will be shorter.

Do your homework on that one & you'll see what I mean!
