Leaving uni till sept...Money issues

I am curreently studying a course at uni and am not enjoying it in the slightest so i am planning to start my second year at uni on a different course again in sept ( i do not have to do my first year again as the first year is a base year for all the degrees in the business department)

If i leave my course now:

1) do i have to pay back any fees/grants/loans
2) can i claim jobseekers allowance till sept when i retsart my course.

any help would be greatly recieved

Usually you have to successfully complete the first year in order to transfer courses, are you sure you can just quit now?? Leaving and transferring are different actions and have very different financial consequences. Basically you cannot have your cake and eat it!

Are you in student accomodation? If you leave now you will have to pay council tax with immediate effect. This will be 75% of the total bill for the house if you live with other students - a lot of money in a shared house! You must also advise your bank that you are no longer entitled to a student bank account, and they may withdraw your 0% overdraft. You will have to inform the Student Loans Company and may have to pay back a proportion of any grant or loan you have received.

As a continuing or returning student you will not be entitled to claim Jobseekers Allowance, but if you leave study entirely you will be able to do so. If you claim Jobseekers Allowance you will have to be available for (and actively seeking) full-time permanent work - and it doesn't sound like you have any intention of this?
