Burst Pipe... HELP! Insurance or NOT!

Options
We have had a burst pipe in the shower and the plumber has had to knock
a hole in the wall to seal it off.
Its caused damaged to the whole bathroom...
We now need a new shower, tray, tiles, wall, carpet, ceiling in the front room, carpet in hall is soaking..
The insurance company has said that they will cover the water damage..
But not the wall or fitting like tiles ect ect until they know what kind of burst
it is...
Im terrified this is going to cost us the earth..
Im pregnant and we have 17mth old twins.. so any kind of large cost is really going to hit us hard.

How can an insurance company who you pay alot more tell you if they will pay or not.... its just not right

xx

Not having read the policy, I'm am assuming there is no cover for trace and access on the policy given what they have said. If this is the case then they will only cover you for the items damaged by the actual escape of water, not the accessing of the leak.

How were the tiles and shower damaged by the leak?

By the plumber having to knock through the wall to get to the pipe behind
and he said that the shower is now knackered
Plus the wall where the shower was is totally water runied
Im not a plumber lol...

Your policy includes Trace and Access which means if you have a valid claim for Escape of Water then they will pay the costs in tracing and accessing the leak eg removing the tiles and then replacing them.

Its on page 25 of your policy

    10 Trace and Access
We will pay for the cost of removing and replacing any part of
the buildings to fi nd and repair the source of any water escaping
from tanks, pipes, equipment or fi xed heating system of the buildings.
We will not pay the cost of any loss or damage to your household
    heating or water system itself.
We will not pay more than £5,000 for any one incident

P.S The Insurers will not normally pay for the repairs to the actual pipe just the damage the water has done and the trace and access

They said that they might pay for this!
Depends on the kind of burst it is....
I think that they are out of order by saying might...Not giving a straight answer

How can you possible expect an insurance company to engage a contract without actually knowing what has happened?

Would you go to Tescos, agree to buy half a cows worth of beef before asking how much it costed?

Its a burst pipe... in a shower... they could at least say if its covered or not...
I dont have a problem with them asking for a quotation... But its not fair to
say ... well you pay X amount each mth.. for you policy.. but we may or may not pay out for you... depends...

As for the Cow example now that is darn stupid!

I'd suggest you go start up an insurance company with that attitude, see how long it lasts.
