gas meter/ test nipple
We discoved a gas leak & called the enginner out at weekend, He said the test nipple had not been replaced when the meter had been replaced, anyway contacted Eon & had this response:
I have contacted National grid to establish the position of the test nipple, who have advised me that this is located before the meter, on the neck of the inbound gas pipe.
As the leak is from this area the gas would not have registered on the meter as it needs to pass through the meter to register any form of use.
Does this sound right?

No, the test nipple is located on the outlet side of the gas meter.
It would be very difficult to estimate the amount of extra gas that has been registered on the meter if any. A leak from a test nipple not being tightened properly is likely to be so small that a standard gas meter will not even register it.
When I attend gas leaks I'm often asked whether the customer would have been paying for it and if thats why their bills are so high. Over time then yes the customer would be paying for any leak on their side of the meter but in my opinion for it to make a significant impact on gas usage then the leak would have to be substantial.
You could ask Eon for a small credit onto you're bill for the stress and inconvenience of being left with a gas leak but I really wouln't expect anything. The leak has been repaired and no damage has been done.0 -
It was a fair period of time, It would have beeb about 5-6 mths that it has been leaking?Jan 2009 Wins: case of wine £40, Wall.E 2 Disk DVD £12! Tropic Thunder DVD £12!!0

As Gman points out it is impossible to determine how much has leaked and been registered on the meter. However, the Gas Supplier musty provide a fit for purpose registering meter. I would not be asking the supplier to agree how much has leaked but a payment to compensate that there MAM (Meter Asset Manager) failed to leave a fully working meter."Self trained industry expert who has worked in Electricty Distribution, Electricity & Gas Supply and currently works as an independent consultant in industry processes to particapants in the industry" :eek:0
