Redundancy and company car

I am being made redundant on Feb 20th. The company are paying me 8 weeks notice + untaken holiday. Part of my salary is the use of a company car for which I am heavily taxed. Even though I'm being made redundant on Friday, can I still claim use of the company car for the 8 weeks notice period?

How long have you worked there? I know years ago, if you had a company car and had been with the company for a certain amount of time (maybe 2 years) they couldn't take it from you straight away.
  • Hi Pastures New,

I would've been there 9 years in March.
  • I would suggest that you would be entitled to it, up to your effective date of termination, which would be the last day of your notice? As you will be taxed on it through your notice period, it would seem harsh if you didnt have it, and this is what I would be saying to my boss if I was you?

Am presuming you are getting redundancy pay in addition to your notice pay?

Part of your pay is the use of a company car. Therefore if they are giving you 8 weeks salary in lieu of notice then you are entitled to 8 weeks of your total benefit package.

So you are entitled to 8 weeks use of the car or an agreed extra amount to cover loss of use of the car.

This rule also works for all other benefits like health insurance

Sorry you have lost your job after such a long time with them.
    Hope you find one soon.

  • I've been in a similar position. We got use of the car through the notice period and personal car insurance. The company refused to "pay individuals off" instead of having the car so if it was returned earlier there was no financial benefit.
