Which Boiler Where?!

hi fellow moneysavers!

just bought a new house and we are having a new kitchen fitted b4 we move in. the old lady that we bought the house off currently has her floor standing boiler (conventional) in the kitchen. its an old thing so its bigger than usual, so big she has to have a section of worktop cut so that it can be accessed. this will obvoiusly not fit legally under the new worktops so we are thinking of moving the boiler altogether. im also swaying towards having a condensing combi instead of the conventional system.

my 3 thoughts are:

1. move it into a store room which we are converting into a utility room. plumber didnt advise this because the bathroom is at the the other end of the house (3 bed detached) and it would take a while for hot water to reach it?

2. move it to the airing cupboard in the bathroom where the hot water tank is. we dont really wanna do this as it restricts bathroom modification ata later date.

3. move it into the loft. does this involve alot of work?

i know next to nothing about plumbing so just wondered if anyone had any thoughts. other notes to consider are:

there are 11 radiators in the house
2 sinks
washer and dishwasher 2 b on cold supply
1 bath
1 electric shower
does water pressure of area significantly matter?
which boiler do u recommend?

any advice is much appreciated
thanks

  • To start with, I would never have a combi boiler. I know they save space, this is just my opinion. I think they are fine for smaller flats and houses, I just would not have one. Why??? Well, if you have a problem with your boiler then you have no hot water at all as you have no cylinder to have a back up immersion heater in. And, in most houses with combis, if there was a problem with the mains water you would have no water at all as you have no storage tank. So nothing to flush the toilet, nothing to make a cup of tea with...........
If you run lots of baths then the boiler is going to heat the water rather than the radiators.
Whatever you decide, get rid of that electric shower, a proper one is so much better.
