How do I protect wooden bathroom sink unit from water

Hi I refurbed my bathroom 12 months ago and bought a wooden cabinet from Next for the basin to sit on (Aspden sink unit for reference). I've really tried to look after it but after 12 months there's a few water marks on there and I'm not sure what to use to protect it/make it more waterproof without altering the colour. I can't imagine a wax would soak in as it's got a shiny/plastic-y finish (but obviously not a water proof one). What could I use that will protect it but won't alter the colour?

thanks in advance.

    can anyone help?
  • Hi KB1977

Go to your local DIY store and look for worktop oil. It is a clear oil intended specifically for wooden areas that would be exposed to water. I use this on my wooden kitchen worktops around the sink. It will not change the colour of the wood at all. You will need to apply a couple of coats over a week or so to build up the protection and then you will only need to do it every 6 months or so.

As you only have a small area to do I would suggest you only buy a small bottle as a little bit goes a long way.

    Hope this helps.

My inclination would be to write to Next and ask their advice. This is formal notification there is a problem, should it deteriorate enough to need replacing entirely. Anything you do could invalidate your guarantee, as Next could then suggest you caused the problem.
