Buyer claiming phone isn't working

Hi all,
I was just posting for a bit of guidance, I recently sold a phone on ebay due to an upgrade. I was using the phone as a back up to my main one, so it had hardly been used. The phone sold for £102 to a buyer in Italy, and I shipped it for an £8 charge. I sent the phone by airsure (it cost me £8.09) and he received it last week. I then checked my account over the weekend and I had received an email from him saying that the phone didnt work, when he was making calls the receiver couldnt hear him talk, I had never had this problem when I used it.
He had also opened a paypal dispute for £110 saying I had not been in contact, despite the fact he had only emailed me the previous day. I had a quick check on his feedback and he had purchased the same phone as what I soold him five minutes before he contacted me for just £72.
Normally I would happily have given a refund as I am sure I would be able to sell the phone again, but this has got me suspicious. He asked if the phone was under warranty so he could get it repaired in the original email (although from the item description it was clear it wasn't), so why would he buy the same phone again before he had contacted me? Has he just realised he overbid for the phone in the first place and now he has found it cheaper he wants a refund? Also if I lose the paypal case will they refund him the £8 it cost me to post the phone so I will be out of pocket?
I have nearly 400 positive feedback and have never encountered this sort of problem before.
Are paypal likely to find in his favour despite my feedback? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'd save yourself the hassle of wrangling with him and ask him to return it to you for a refund. If you've kept registration numbers [not sure of the techie term] of the phone, so you can clarify it is yours, that would be useful, so you can be sure it's the same one. Paypal will almost always rule in the buyers favour!Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j0

you needed to have kept track of the IMEI number so you know its yours that you receive back.Tell him to send it back tracked if poss from Italy as Paypal will only refund when you have it back with you.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

You will probably lose a paypal claim but buyer will need to return phone for a full refund first. However I wonder if this is going to be a switched phone if you say he also bought an identical one. Therefore when suggesting he returns the phone mention that you have all the IMEI numbers and that you will need to check them against th ephone before a refund is given
Lastly, phones going overseas are a very bad idea, you do realise that you are not insured against loss if a mobile going overseas is worth more than £36? Most people tend to block all overseas bidders on their phones and I even put a note on the auction stating that I am aware of the 419 scam and will not ship overseas.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. also say in your mail to him about returning it, that you hope he hasnt confused your phone with the identical one he bought previously,..that way its a subtle hint you know what he is doing!TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

Yes mention that you give a refund once its been returned and you have checked the IEMI number and the security mark you put on the phone
