possible to reclaim mobile insurance? help please!

This is my first post so please be kind

My partner and I have recently moved in together and now have a joint account. I noticed 2 payments coming out around the same time each month which turned out to both be mobile phone insurance payments.

After a bit of digging we have found that one is insurance for his current mobile and the other is for a mobile that the contract was cancelled 4 years ago. (When I say the contract was cancelled the phone contract was cancelled.)
I thought that cancelling this would have been enough but when we rang them they said no that you had to cancel the insurance policy as well as the mobile. They said we couldnt get a refund but out of courtesy they would refund 3 months worth!!!

So basically he has been paying £9.99 for 4 years for a phone that hasnt been used and that insurance really wasnt needed on.
I know a lot of people will say that he should have noticed this over the space of 4 years!!! I agree, but does anyone know if it is possible to reclaim this? Its quite a substantial amount of money that would come in very handy!!

Any help would be gratefully received

I think as you the response would be you should have noticed although they have agreed a 3 month refund which is better than nowt! You should have made a claim on the insurance and got a new phone out of it lol.
