Flight & Hotel v Package Hol

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone could clarify what the difference is between Flight & Hotel v a package hol... I notice Thomas Cook do both - with same hotels in some cases.
My reckoning is that with Flight & Hotel the components are booked seperately therefore any insurance against the agent/booking company may not cover all of the cost...? And perhaps you don't have a holiday rep?
Is that right.. .?

package holiday would probably include airport transfers & a flight & hotel deal wouldn't.1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100
MFW 2013 no. 62 £10,000/£10,000
MFW 2014 no 62 £8000/£70000 -
... this deal includes transfers (as optional extra) ?0

Flight & hotel wouldn't be covered under ATOL regs, whereas package holiday is covered by ATOL regsI am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. Atol numbers can be checked with the Civil Aviation Authority. Apart from the ATOL issue, the main difference between package/DIY is the airport transfers. Though i' noticed when i recently searched for holidays that even on some packages the transfer sometimes had to be added as an extra cost.
I actually prefer DIY, as i generally don't have to spend ages on a coach/mini-bus zig-zagging through resorts to drop off what seems like 2 people at every location. :mad:Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
thanks all - am querying on a money safety basis... ie if the company went bust, would we loose all money0

If thomas cook have put the bits together for you and if something happened to a part of it then the travel agent that put it together would sort out an alternative for you. Generally on seperate components you dont get a rep but you do get a 24hour helpline to ring and you cant use things like the kids clubs unless they're hotel run.0
