I thought I read somewhere that you only get billed if the person you call actually answers

Oh, I hope that's the case. I don't know, was just assuming that once the zero pence message came on it confirmed that it was connecting to that number and with 18185 there is a 5p connection fee.

OK, I had to go and check it out ('cos I'm like that :D ) and found this on 18185's website FAQs.
When do call charges take effect?

Call charges take effect once you are connected to the telephone number you have dialled i.e once the call has been answered. If there is no answer or the line is engaged you will not be charged for the call.

So looks like the "dropped out" calls (as I call them) don't get charged :T

Thanks TomsMom, that was probably where I read it; I thought it was on here, which it may have been, of course!! :D

I've been unable to use 18185 for the last couple of days. I'm using the contact number 08081703703 it rings and then I get a message saying that the number has not been recognised.
I've changed my phone to a Siemens A510A but I'm still with Virgin Media.
Has anyone any idea of what is wrong at 18185 HQ?
  • Do you still have the same problem today? If so, it might be an idea to quote your area code as it could be a local issue with VM. You really need a VM customer to confirm if they are having/had problems. I'm on a BT line and the normal service is working for me, not that that helps you!
