Nat west charge my 15 year old daughter £40 for refusing to pay a £27.00 DD

well ive just ventured into her bedroom and had alook at the statement, she has an 'adapt' account which is specifically for under 18's. I have had alook on the nat west web site and it does state they do charge fees on this account for unpaid DD's etc. She was actually charged £38 for the DD being refused - not £40 - my mistake!!! when O2 attempted to take out DD she had £19 in her account so was only £8 short ! ahh well an expensive mistake by her I guess, but I will get her to go to the bank with me this week and speak to someone.
thanks again0 -
Lisa the bank cannot charge your daughter £38 as she is under 18 years of age. End of. She has either a card plus or adapt account and the terms and conditons for the account do not permit Standing Orders or Direct Debits on the account.
They will refund it.0 -
Thanks thats the bit I wasn't quite sure of! I just always thought that the contract holder must supply their own bank details rather than someone elses (so I couldn't set one up in my name but charge my friend... although I doubt he would then be my friend for much longer lol)
we took out the O2 contract online as I already have an online mobile account with them. Whether they didnt question it because we have the same initials I dont know, however I was totally honest with everything that was asked on the forms and im sure I had to put in my full name on the DD mandate details not just my initials. Nor did O2 question it when I spoke to them whilst getting her account back in order !0 -

Thanks for this information. She has an adapt account, I guess I have to decide whether to get her the money refunded and then get the DD changed to come out of my bank account, or leave things be as an expensive lesson for her and allow the DD to continue to be taken from her account ( It been set up for about 6 months now) and nat west have never questioned it !0 -

Just read the article, hope you find something soon where you can be rewarded for such a refreshing attitude, and long may you continue to help others fight :A0 -

Hope you're doing ok.0 -
You're a hero, natweststaffmember! I hope that you manage to get things sorted very soon. The Independent article is excellent and NatWest have given themselves very bad publicity.
Good luck.
