Hi,
could anyone point me in the right direction for the best car hire company at Shannon Airport please?
Excess is not a problem as I have an insurance policy with insurance4hire unless of course there is something I need to know?
Thanks for any help with this.

I always use car hire Ireland every time i go back home. Never had any problems with them and they are very reasonable. Ive never used them Shannon only knock and Dublin but assume they are based there too, good luck!0

I'm going with Irish Car Rentals . Booked over phone and they 'threw in'
additional driver .Without the rain you wouldn't have the rainbows !
I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left!0 -

Sorry to come back to this folks but I have looked at the sites mentioned and found deals which suit me.
However they have a couple of points on them:
1. They appear to charge for collecting at the airport? Is this normal?
2. They have an excess on the DCW which is fair enough as I have an insurance policy to cover this. However on reading the small print it states that I will have to leave a deposit fot the excess of between 800e - 1200e?
Surely this cannot be correct or is this the way Car Hire operates in Southern Ireland?
Sorry to ask these questions but this is a new one for me so info is vital.
Thanks

The deposit is normal, all they do is take a pre authorisation of a credit card, its not charged unless there is damage.
I go over to Ireland all the time and have never been charged for picking up from the airport, however i always hire from Dublin not Shannon. It might be different down there, cant see why though.
Not much but hope it helps.0 -
The 1200Euro is attempted to be authorised on a credit card. Have you got sufficient space?
I am not sure if they will accept the other insurance, this was not mentioned to me but then again they were trying to sell insurance to get around the 1200 Euro at 10Euro a day.
Have you agreeed full-full on fuel?
If not they will charge you 60Euro and use Dynamic Currency conversion to rip you off. The other week they were trying 0.91Euro to the UK£, nationwide Visa were using 1.14Euro to £
At Shannon they take you in a minibus to the rental area, its not far but the bus runs all the time.
I ran into a problem out of hours with them as well. The return place shuts at 6pm and I have the car until 7pm. No information was given when i was picking the car up and nothing was written on the details handed over.
In the end I talked to the people down the road at Budget who advised me to put the car in the short stay car park and return the keys to the desk.
When you arrive the rental desks are to your left, it is branded up Irish Car Rentals/National/Alamo.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Cheers for the help everyone,
I understand the deposit situation which is crazy as I have good insurance cover for this with Insurance4hire. I thought they would just take a credit card print and then deduct any damage which I claim back. However one site stated that if I did not take the extra insurance cover I would have to deposit this crazy amount with them!
I will also look at full-full fuel.
You learn every day!!0
