Not replacing blown bulbs

We have several down lighters in the house with 3 bulbs in each. My husband thinks that running them with say 1 light bulb will save money on electricity. Is this true or is it a false economy?

i would say 'yes' more bulbs being used more electricity being used.
i have a triple light thingy in the hallway, but have only ever run it with 2 bulbs in.... mainly cos otherwise it is too bright.....

Basically it will use less power, and be less bright.

The hint is on the bulb's, e.g. 60W.

If you run three you are using 180W, if you run two you are using 120W. Your electricity costs are calculated in KWh (Kilo Watt Hours). Running two blubs instead of three is saving you 33% in energy costs.

Thanks for your responses. Seems like a really dumb question now, but I thought you would still have a flow of electricity going to a dead end. I guess it only matters when something is plugged into it.

Better start removing your plug sockets then......

Always better to ask however trivial in my opinion.

My old Mum thought that electricity ran out of the lamp holder when there was no bulb in it. There was not a problem with power points as the house did not have any.(We are talking 1948 here). The only appliance that we had was an electric iron, which was run from an adaptor off the ceiling rose. In retrospect, the mind boggles.
