Amending the terms of a managed loan with HSBC

Hi,
I'm looking to speak to HSBC today to amend the terms of my Managed Loan with them to either gain £800.00 or pay them £100.00 less for 8 months, I rely on my vehicle to get me to work and back and unfortunately its broken down and cannot be repaired, a family member has offered to sell me theirs well below the market price and would let me pay them for it over 8 months.
What I was wondering is if any of you have been in a similar situation and have HSBC been understanding and helpful, I know they've got a bit of a bad reputation but as this is only a short term amendment and I need a car to get to work I'm hoping they will agree to it!
Thanks

HSBC are the very worst gathering of affectless automata I have ever encountered. You can try, but may not be successful in renegotiating the loan. You may have more luck if you go into the branch than if you try to sort it out over the phone with "Trevor" in Mumbai, but don't count on it.
If you don't get anywhere, just stop paying HSBC until you have the £800, then start paying them again
