no it's not, if you follow the steps in the Malware/Spyware Sticky at the top of this section then you will clear almost ALL spyware from you PC (I say almost as the new versions of Winfixer are a so and so to remove)

a format of the hard drive is really only the last resort if parts of windows are corrupt

ANYONE READING THIS ... IF YOU HAVE THE "about:blank" HIJACKER IT WILL BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE IT WITHOUT RECOURSE TO HIJACKTHIS LOG ANALYSIS AND THE USE OF REMOVAL TOOLS DEDICATED FOR THIS MALWARE

A TOTAL DISK REFORMAT IS COMPLETELY UNECESSARY AT THIS STAGE

None of the standard security programs will fix this once you are infected.

The steps in Browntoa's advice (post immediately before this one) must be worked through first then a HJT log posted for tailor-made advice on how to fix it.

just to let you know i connected to over the machine and remove all spyware remotely.

How are things with you now? Has "about;blank" gone? Want any help from us to fix it?

Not forgetting that Microsoft Anti Spyware Beta has the facillity to
restore home page settings that may have been manipulated.

As for whether this would work in your case is another story but worth a shot.
