I don't know if this would make things worse, but you can get those poles that you can lock into position for your car space and let down with the key when you want to use it. At least then you won't need to ask him to move when you want to use it.

The ownership of a car is irrelevant.

One of my neighbours has a space and no car, but that doesn't give me the right to park in it! If they were to rent the space to me, then that would be a different matter!

Is there plenty of street parking? If this guy is so obsessed with parking in your space, then perhaps your LL can reduce your rent, and rent the space to him? You are, after all, paying for that space...

I would say it may be relevent as to why the neighbour initially got a bit huffy for beng asked not to park there.

We don't own a car, but I do sometimes have a car or small van from my work overnight - which is part of the problem, as we only use the space about 50% of the time.

    :).

This may be part of the problem. Your neighbour may think you don't have a car and were just being territorial.

It may be worth telling him why you need the space left empty. Now i know it's your space and you shouldn't have to explain yourself but it may just help.....or have things gone too far for that.

I dont think whether or not you have a car is relevant at all. If I knew my neighbours had no car I wouldnt just use their space. I would approach them and ask permission first. A girl I work with has a space and no car so the neighbour parks there even after being asked not to. It makes it difficult for their visitors to park there. Some people have no manners. A parking space should be treated no differently to someones driveway and you wouldnt just pull up in there if they didnt have a car!

If they have one space and two cars then they should have asked before using your space - it's just plain rude AND an example opf why planners should make sure there's enough parking on new developments (Seen some built with big houses and one space per house... a recipe for neighbours falling out on little streets)

If he's going to complain about making noise at 4am, you might as well do it.

:rotfl: Unfortunately our flat is open plan - I'd far rather be asleep than washing at 4am!

Great idea with the parking post - we haven't wanted to do it because no-one else has one and we didn't want the guy to think we're escalating it by blocking the space when we don't even need it (he does already know it's only occasional work vehicles we have).

There is very limited guest parking but only four spaces between about fifty flats, so we don't like to use this if possible as it blocks it up.

Thanks for all the ideas though - it's really helpful to have a few things to think about!
