It may be that your above the income support threshhold ie the ib is more than the income support would be.
Id have a look at the council tax as you may be entitled to some help as your on a low income. Your paying half your rent are you therefore in receipt of housing benefit.
As for dla you need to keep trying. The council may have someone that can help you with this otherwise the cab.

Can I ask you why you claim dla and also what your trade/ job was. Ill see If I can help but Id need the imformation first. You can Pm me if you want the imformation to be private.

I used to be a "Horticultural Landscape Gardener" many years ago. I have been on the Incapacity benefit since I was 28, I am now 43( still handsome too, lol)
I do get housing benefit. My problem also is when I moved into the house I had nothing. I am now in debt because I had to buy a cooker, fridge, carpet and all the usual household items. I asked for help towards the costs but was refused.

This really annoys me, there are so many organisations out there that will help if you're on a low income, not to mention Freecycle, and yet, when you ask for help from the people who 'ought' to know, they don't bother to mention that, though it's difficult to get funding, it's not necessarily expensive to obtain the items of furniture you need. Become a member of your local Freecycle (google it with your local town/city name). If you can't get what you need off Freecycle then ring your local council's Housing Services, your CAB or a local Housing Association and ask whether there are any charities in the area that can help and how you might go about getting a referral.

Thanx again for all your help.
I can see me being refused IB again though:(
  • A lot of people get turned down for DLA, but succeed in getting it (or getting it at a higher level) on appeal. You usually have a month after the decision to appeal. If you're too late to appeal, you could put in a fresh application - it can be useful to get help completing the form, from CAB or welfare rights. They can also help with an appeal.

It is definitely worth persevering with, as middle rate DLA would make an enormous difference in your situation.
