Fiat Punto - bonnet cable snapped!

Hey all
It appears that the bonnet cable on my Fiat Punto has snapped. When I pull the lever under the steering wheel there is no resistance and nothing happens.
I've googled it, and it appears that it's not the easiest to resolve as Punto's don't have front grills so you can't access the bonnet that way. I've read one option to have someone push down on bonnet whilst you pull the cable itself but at moment I have no-one here with me to help!
Anyone know rough estimate of how much Fiat charge to sort it? Is it a relatively easy job, done in a day? Can I by the replacement cable direct from Fiat and get local garage to fit it?
Annoyingly I used to drive past Fiat garage everyday on way to my old job, but now work nowhere near it!
Thanks in advance

when did you last oil it?
I would just take it to a local garage after trying what has been suggested0 -
if you can get to the end of the cable inside the cabin then grab it with pliers and pull it....work permit granted!0
