Self-Catering in Devon/Cornwall but where?

It's been many years since I've been down that way and OH and I are looking for a spring break in April (anywhere west of the M5 corridor).

We'd like a little self-catering apartment/cottage in a quiet area with at least one or two pub/restaurants close by. Something with that 'extra special' touch might be nice (hot tub, log fire, water/coastal view etc or similar)

Can anyone suggest an area and/or accomodation please?

Many thanks

C xx

    Can anyone suggest anywhere?
  • Hi

I live in ST Austell and there is a lovely group of cottages called tregongeeves. There is a pool and it's on a farm so great for the kids. You'll have to google it, if you can't find it, try looking for river valley caravan park there will be a link as it's the same people. If you book say Beccci said hi.
They are lovely people and the cottages are beautiful and spotless.
    Hope this helps

I would suggest you try looking at the recommendations that have been made by previous guests at www.therealvisitorsbook.co.uk . there are pages dedicated to Cornwall, Devon & Somerset.
For something a bit special, Alistair Sawdays is always a good site:
    www.sawdays.co.uk/accommodation/britain/
and there are always some very good cottages on the Premier Cottages site www.premiercottages.co.uk/
Just remember to check out your choices on either:

  • If you want beach location you could try this.

My husband's family have holiday'ed at this beach since the 1920s, before anything arrived commercially and they stayed in a tent.

Since then a caravan park has opened, for many years and this is open from April to September, the rest of the year it is just occupied by some farm buildings and a development called Ocean Blue. It was controversial at the time for the caravan users because it replaced a hotel which was great for them, but I have to say each time I walk down from the caravan I do long for a short stay there instead.

The beach is lovely, and out of season it will feel like your own private beach.

A drive into the village of St Myren (sorry I have spelt it wrong can't remember how it is spelt!) there are two pubs, a pizza restaurant, wonderful fish and chips and his latest Rick Steins pub (his local that he took over).

It really is like stepping back in time, it is so still and peaceful (out of season!)
