  • Do you really need the car for two weeks?

I find it best when in Majorca to use resorthoppa for my transfers and then pick a car up for a few days in my resort.

Where are you going in Majorca and if you like I can give you a code for discount with resorthoppa.

I've got the same dilemma as we are going to Palma in Aug! We've hired a car from Palma on two previous occasions - once with Avis and another with a car hire company I cannot recall the name of.

Avis was expensive, but their desk is located in the arrivals hall, and the cars are located on the ground floor of the car park adjacent to the terminal building. Really easy to pick up/drop off.

The last company we used had no desk at the airport. All the transactions were done sat on a bench in the terminal building. In fact, when we arrived, we couldn't locate the reps to start off with, they were surrounded by holiday makers all trying to pick up the keys to their car. No organisation or queue. Their cars were located on the top floor of the car park which meant struggling with suitcases up escalators etc. We also had to pay the exit fee for the car park which meant we had to have some Euros on us, not everyone was quite so prepared. Car seats were really poor quality, we had to exchange one as it was impossible to fit it correctly - next time we will take our own boosters.

I would prefer to pay a little more and book with a well known, reputable car hire company. Cheap isn't always best.

I have always used Record and they have been fine.
No reliance should be placed on the above.
  • We went to Alcudia twice last year - summer for 2 weeks and rented a car from company called carpay (they do have a website) in the resort, very good price. we also had a week at xmas and hired a 9 seater vito from Centuro via, I think doyouspain, hired from the airport. Centuro's office is just off airport but they meet you and drive you there to collect vehicle. All we had to pay for apart from the weeks hire was for a tank of fuel, which is the biggest con and something they all seem to do unless you hire for less than as I recall, 4 days or so.

I've usedDoYouSpain quite a few times now (Mallorca, Mainland, and Canaries) without problems - has always been "bring it back with same fuel as you started" so far. Pretty sure they have an option for child seats on the booking page, but never needed them myself.

Is it just a booster seat you need? 4 euros a day for a fortnight is 56 euros, you can buy them for less than a tenner. They weigh next to nothing, you could either put it in your case or carry it as hand luggage.
  • It might be worth remembering that a credit card will be swiped as deposit, either for fuel or damage and that this amount is 'returned' when the car is returned. The returned amount however, is usually less than the initial deposit. I think depends on your card fees/loading on spending (see money exchange article) and might also be represented as a percentage that depends on the size of the deposit. I became aware of this process last year and it would be useful to find a way around it.

We used Record but ordered through www.email-car-hire.com Price was roughly the same as the Record site direct but they include any childrens seats for free. You still hire the car from teh Record desk, pick up at the Record section just saved money on child seats(as we needed 2 that was c. 80 Euros for our hire period)

http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/ has been quite reasonably priced for me in the past, for Palma Mallorca car hire.

    And £10 Quidco!
