holiday hotel question

hi all - am already looking at holiday choices for next year - going to portugal twice this year and have been doing this for last few years
after talking to hubby last night we are thinking about doing something different next year - possibly an all inclusive to mexico
so im looking at recommendations that ppl on this site have made and browsing travel sites and have tried to cost a few up
my problem is my eldest child will be 14 next year and you can only have children up to the age of 12 in a room with you and im not sure about either hub and i having seperate rooms and sharing with kids or the children having a room on there own - which you cant seem to do on a website either
so im a bit confused really ....
anyone else in this situation ?

Are you absolutely sure about not being allowed to have a child older than 12 in a room with you. I dont think many parents would be happy leaving a 12-16 (or older maybe) year old child in a room on their own. Is there no way you can get a family room suitable for parents and children?
Not having kids myself, I obviously dont have any experience of taking them on holiday, but I cant see how a company can insist that a child sleeps in a seperate room on their own. I could be wrong, but that just sounds ludicrous!!!
Hope you manage to get something sorted though.0 -
we normally book private apartments for holidays so just not sure what is the norm if you get me
on the sites ive been looking at - thomson first choice etc it def says children must be 12 and under ?
doesnt give any options for family rooms or connecting rooms that i have seen ....:j MFi3 wannabee :j

I wonder if the age stipulation is purely for the price you pay, i.e. anyone over 12 pays adult price (Which personally I think is a complete con, although a lot of companies do this). Not wanting to labour the point, but I really dont think that a company (Especially one like first choice, who pride themselves on child friendly holidays) would insist you cant have any child older than 12 in a room with you.
If you cant get any more from the website, id suggest calling first choice (I know this probably isnt the only company youre looking at, but they may be able to shed some light for you) and asking what their position on the matter is.0 -
We took the kids to mexico and booked an interconnecting room, lots of hotels in mexico have them. You will find though that once the kids turn 12 your paying adult price for them so they are entitled to their own room. We booked with Thomson and stayed at the Riu Tequila.£100 - £10,0000
