I have stayed at a place called The Inn Crowd in Singapore and can really recommend it. Its a few years since istayed there but the couple who run it are fantastic and if i was ever to go back i would definately stay there.
I've just checked out their website and there are still some photo's from when i stayed there over easter during the SARS outbreak.

Hi there
I have used this hostel - more like a small boutique type hotel. Hangout @ Mt Emily.

Short walk from Orchard Road- up a little bit of a hill from memory. Not sure if they take children. Rooms- I had a basic single room with ensuite but very clean. Entry was via keycard to all floors. I am looking at going back when I'm there is August.
Happy travels!0
